Canada can count itself as the home of many successful and talented artists and Jeff Abel aka Excision is no exception. Born in Kelowna, British Columbia in 1986, he was one of the original creators of North American dubstep. He’s worked with some notable labels including Dubline, EX7, mau5trap, and Rottun. Excision has frequently collaborated with fellow Canadian artists Datsik and Downlink, producing tracks such as ‘Swagga’ and ‘Existence EP’. He’s made many remixes including Wu-Tang Clan’s ‘Biochemical Equation’ and Pendulum’s ‘Showdown’ in 2009. In 2010 he remixed Lil Wayne’s ‘A Milli’, Noisia’s ‘Alfa Centauri’ with Datsik, and ‘No Holds Barred’ by Foreign Beggars and Noisia. 2011 brought the release of Excision’s album, X Rated. Notable tracks include the album’s namesake, ‘X Rated’ featuring Messinian, ‘Execute’, and ‘Deviance’. He has participated in the Canadian music festival, Shambhala, since 2008, releasing his mixes afterward for the public.
His style has been compared to the sounds of Transformers and the bass lines are truly jaw dropping. Each track has been mixed to cinematic proportions, making humble headphones and sophisticated sound systems alike burst with grinding, metallic sound. For those interested in heavy metal or any kind of dubstep, Excision will provide many hours of mind-blowing audio intrigue.
